Usually when you claim land within your base a new resource appears in the area and that's what the notification is most likely referring to. E.g. if it states "New resource appeared in the area: Money (96)!" it doesn't mean that you've gained the Money, it's an indicator to look for it on a map: the Money is somewhere nearby and you could go and pick it up.
