Actually, I apologize for this comment, I thought the unobtainium's buildings were like 6 and the others were 3 or stuff like that... I ve probably exchanged the values in my mind, and I ve already changed it ! Yes indeed, we did our best to make all core content available for free and Unobtainium's there mostly for those who want to cut some corners or not go outside. It is impossible to use Unobtainium in combat as well, so in the end all fights should be pretty much equal! Make sure to check out the "Current Objective" window (the round "i" button on Earth View), as it can help understand most core elements of the game mechanics, but please do not hesitate to ask if something doesn't make sense!
