Sentry towers and what they cover

A question came up on the chat that I think should be asked over here. Sentry Towers. If your base is coal located inside of a land that is protected by Century Towers, will they activate if the base itself is attacked? Or do they only protect the land and not the base?

The base won't be protected, sorry!
The towers only activate when their specific land is attacked.

But I can see how changing that may make things a bit more interesting; will add that to my list of things to review.
