  1. Cool! By the way, there is an auto follow mode. Try long press on the yellow button in the upper right corner of Earth view: the button will change color and the camera will start following your blue dot!
  2. Hi! They do last one hour, but they also have an expendable number of charges on them. When these charges are depleted the magnet is destroyed. Take a look at the item's description, the charge counter is there!
  3. There is indeed a refresh limit of 5 seconds to prevent excessive battery drain, plus the GPS differentiates between the phone in stationary mode (i.e. laying around) or moving, and the later will result in a better refresh rate usually. It will also not update if you are located within 10m from the previous spot. Old version of Google maps used to update your position almost every second and at every step, and that made the game really battery-consuming! May I ask how fast were you moving and how rarely did the blue dot update?
  4. Yup, don't worry, this is something I promised Ruvox in my post above - viewing lands from a great distance will return in the next version.
  5. Fixed! Please try that again.
  6. Thanks for letting me know! I've reproduced the issue and will add a fix in the next version.
  7. Haha, thank you, I appreciate the positive feedback and I'm happy to hear you're enjoying "Domination: Earth" over our competitors! It's what keeps this project going (no point developing something that no one wants to play ). Ahh, I thought you meant "visibility layers" for map content! But now that you've mentioned it I can see the "magical hand" you're referring to. How weird, I haven't noticed it! That definitely wasn't there before and is a feature silently introduced to us by the new map provider. But it also means fewer marker re-size events triggered by "micromovements" of the camera, which is a positive thing for the game's performance. Awesome! In this case I will simply increase visibility distance for all markers.
  8. Awesome, thanks very much for bringing some positivity, Ruvox! In regard to item #2: I've actually added that in 1.12.3 in a desperate attempt to make Mapbox work faster (as seeing all lands *really* slowed things down before), but since I've made some performance optimizations in 1.13 and everything works a lot faster now (thank you for confirming that, by the way; I was wondering if it's just me ) I am happy to bring the distant land view back in the next update, which will most likely happen next week. I just can't continue spamming Play Store with new versions this week anymore. Actually, zoom levels were there previously, I've just adjusted their distance threshold. But what I did add is flag "clustering": displaying hundreds of lands situated within 1-2 pixels away from each other was a bit messy and caused performance issues, so lands that are too close now will merge into 1 flag (representing one random land out of the merged group). However, if that makes things more difficult for you please let me know and I'll adjust the range/distance thresholds again.
  9. I've also never had any issues with Google Maps on my personal phone, but there are over 4,000 devices that didn't support Domination: Earth before and there are players around who've experienced regular crashes once every few minutes; at least 30% of our uninstalls and negative reviews were related to app's instability. We simply have to adapt to as many users as possible and it's unlikely that we'll be going back to Google Maps in the near future, but it doesn't mean I will stop trying to improve the game and make everyone happy. As promised in the other thread, I will have a think about possible ways to add more colours and graphical variety to the new map. Yes, I've added that copyright as a courtesy to the map's developers; we've had exactly the same with Google maps (a "Google" logo in the lower-left corner of the screen) as neither of those maps were developed purely by myself. I can change its colour if it bothers you, but removing it completely would be unethical (all map providers politely require to keep some sort of a copyright notice). So, is there anyone who actually *does* like the new update or anything about it? Has anyone's map performance improved since version 1.12?
  10. Just to confirm: is there anything else I can help with in regard to that issue (following our discussion via PM) or can this thread be considered closed?
  11. Makes sense. Added to the future enhancement list!

    Questions

Sorry for a delay! No problem, I've already promised somewhere on the forum that I'm going to add more granular stats and regional information; I'll make sure to include something like that as well. It may not be too soon though, as there are some really cool features planned first.
  13. Point taken, I'l l see if we can diversify colour scheme in the next versions. Unfortunately though, the top-down view will be with us for a while, as it is either that or 30% of population not being able to run the game at all, or Google Maps crashing 14-28 times per day. I personally find the last two options much more revolting. However, if I come up with a way to bring the isometric look back - I most certainly will!
  14. Hi all, As many of you know, our yesterday's release of the new Mapbox-based map didn't really go so well as many old Android devices turned out to be incapable of running it. Accordingly, we're now discontinuing the use of Mapbox GL and moving onto another map service provider, which should perform much better across all devices and also work on Android 4.4 and Android 5. Additionally, captured land shape is back to being circular again. If you are experiencing any issues with the Earth View tab (GPS coordinate loading not going away or crashing the game, general slowdowns and lags while scrolling the map around etc.) please get version 1.13 as soon as you can. As always, any feedback is very much appreciated.
  15. I will get back into new feature development as soon as everyone can play again (i.e. the new map and the GPS work on all devices). Please remember that it's just one person building all this, so while I investigate Android 5 issues there's no one else to build all the cool new stuff (sorry! ). If nothing else goes wrong I'll focus on the point system next week!
  16. Yes, that sounds about right! Loss isn't supposed to be reflected in leaderboards, just the "highest ever" value. Or did I misunderstand something?
  17. Thanks, that's actually what I tried yesterday with no luck. I have no idea why your phone refuses to run WebGL and it's hard to guess without actually having that phone at hand... Don't worry though, I've already prepared a new version that doesn't use WebGL (after all, even if I did force your phone to run it the performance would be terrible if its GPU is in the blacklist indeed). Stay tuned for release of 1.13!
  18. Yup, 1.12.3 may struggle to find position initially, as in the process of finding issues reported by @AntKeeper I've disabled a few sensors that used to help with positioning. However, as we've now established that GPS has nothing to do with the map not showing I will restore those sensors in the next update. A different version of the map is also likely to appear then.
  19. That's bad news! This can only mean that your device's GPU is in Chromium's blacklist for WebGL, so there's no way for me to enable it from my end. You are absolutely correct, developing 2 versions (well... 3! We also have iOS! ) is quite a pain, so I will have to look for another map alternative and an Android 5 phone to test it on. Annoyingly, Android 5 emulators all run the latest version without any issues. * sigh * Reverse engineering someone's game would be slightly unethical and mostly illegal, but I have checked what they're using as the map provider. Unfortunately, we can't use the same if we want to keep the pretty tooltips on the Earth View (from version 1.12 that you haven't seen yet But I'm positive you'd like them!) and their map won't work on iOS without *a lot* of additional development from scratch (I bet that's the reason Resources Game doesn't have an iOS version!). However, I have some ideas for what we could use; leave it with me!
  20. @AntKeeper could you please check Play Store for another update? If there isn't one, please try uninstalling and re-installing the game again! I've added a separate version aimed specifically at Android 5.x, which *should* help with map rendering. You will notice that it's larger in size than usual (approx. 60 Megabytes), as it includes a lot of custom functionality to make this work. Please let me know if that still doesn't help; if that is the case then I may have to roll you guys back to Google Maps for all Android 5 devices... In any case, I really appreciate your help and patience!
  21. That's great, thank you for the details and for confirming my suspicion - looks like the GPS isn't the culprit here! I will release another update shortly that should address the WebView issue! Sorry for all the Play Store updates today, but I really want to make sure that everyone can play again ASAP.
  22. Argh, that is weird! Can you please check if there are any updates in Play Store? I've added 1.12.3 about an hour ago to help with certain GPS-related issues, hopefully that helps a bit (but if not - please post!). P.S. Oh, almost forgot! When you open "My Lands" tab, does it work? I.e. can you see a list of your bases and the nearest land (most importantly - the nearest land)? If the nearest land does appear in the list then it may not be a GPS issue as such, which means that I've been chasing wild geese all day... P.P.S. And one final question, if I may! If you go to "Settings > Apps > Android System WebView" on your phone, what version does that WebView have?
  23. Right! If it is more about planning where and when to activate your items then I may have some other ideas that would help achieve this goal. Will do my best to implement them in one of the upcoming releases!
  24. Ah, ok. I'll have a think about other alternatives I can offer using Mapbox! Would you say the coordinates were most important in that aspect or the actual "pathfinding" (directions laid out in the Google Maps app)? Or would a "distance from yourself (meters/km)" be an equally useful replacement?
  25. Since this subject is all over the forum I thought it would be interesting to find out and collate the general opinion of our population in one place. As most of you are aware by now, version 1.12 introduces a new shape of captured lands - Hexagons. Do you like them or did you prefer circles from the older versions? Please vote!
